Secukinumab

Cosentyx
Mechanism of action
IL-17A ()
In plain language
A lab-made that neutralizes IL-17A, an inflammation-driving protein linked to psoriasis and related conditions.
View
How it works
Secukinumab is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that selectively binds interleukin-17A and prevents it from engaging the IL-17 on target cells. By neutralizing this cytokine, it interrupts a key signaling pathway that drives release of proinflammatory mediators implicated in psoriatic and spondyloarthritic disease, reducing keratinocyte hyperproliferation in skin and inflammatory infiltration in joints and entheses.
Therapeutic applications
FDA-indicated for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, active non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, active enthesitis-related arthritis, and moderate to severe hidradenitis suppurativa, across various age ranges from adults to children as young as 2.
