How it works
Romiplostim is an Fc-peptide fusion protein consisting of a human IgG1 Fc domain linked to a peptide containing two thrombopoietin receptor-binding domains. It binds and activates the TPO receptor on megakaryocyte progenitor cells through a mechanism analogous to endogenous thrombopoietin, despite sharing no amino acid sequence homology with native TPO. This stimulates megakaryocyte proliferation and differentiation, increasing platelet production.
Therapeutic applications
Indicated for treating thrombocytopenia in adults and pediatric patients 1 year and older with immune thrombocytopenia who have had an inadequate response to prior therapy, and in adults and pediatric patients acutely exposed to myelosuppressive doses of radiation, to increase survival.
