Blocks the docking site that a pain-signaling protein (CGRP) uses to trigger migraine attacks.
How it works
During a migraine, nerves around the brain release a protein called CGRP that widens blood vessels and carries pain signals. Nurtec ODT blocks the spot where CGRP normally attaches, so it can't set off those effects. This can stop a migraine that has already started, or, taken regularly, help keep migraines from starting in the first place, without narrowing blood vessels the way some older migraine medicines do.
What it’s used for
Used to treat a migraine attack once it begins, and can also be taken every other day to reduce how often migraines occur.
