- How it works
- Ranibizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody Fab fragment engineered to bind with high affinity to the receptor-binding site of active forms of VEGF-A. By neutralizing VEGF-A, it prevents ligand engagement with its receptors on vascular endothelial cells, reducing endothelial cell proliferation, pathologic neovascularization, and vascular permeability within the retina and choroid. Because it lacks an Fc region, it is designed for rapid intraocular clearance.
- Therapeutic applications
- Indicated for neovascular age-related macular degeneration, macular edema following retinal vein occlusion, diabetic macular edema, diabetic retinopathy, and myopic choroidal neovascularization.
