- How it works
- Ocrelizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that binds CD20, a surface antigen expressed on pre-B and mature B lymphocytes. Upon binding, it triggers antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity and complement-mediated lysis, depleting circulating CD20+ B cells, which are implicated in MS pathology through antigen presentation, autoantibody production, and pro-inflammatory cytokine release.
- Therapeutic applications
- Indicated for relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis and primary progressive multiple sclerosis in adults, and for relapsing-remitting MS in pediatric patients 10 and older weighing at least 25 kg.
