- A lab-made antibody that latches onto IL-17A, a signaling protein that drives inflammation, preventing it from triggering the runaway immune response seen in psoriasis and related joint diseases.
- How it works
- Ixekizumab is a humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody engineered to bind interleukin-17A with high specificity and affinity. By sequestering IL-17A, it prevents the cytokine from engaging the IL-17 receptor complex on keratinocytes and synoviocytes, blocking downstream pro-inflammatory signaling that drives keratinocyte hyperproliferation in psoriatic skin and synovial inflammation in spondyloarthritis.
- Therapeutic applications
- FDA-approved for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in patients 6 and older, active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, and active non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis with objective signs of inflammation.
