- A lab-made antibody that attaches to the CGRP receptor on nerve cells — the docking site for a molecule that triggers migraine pain — and blocks it from being activated.
- How it works
- Erenumab is a fully human IgG2 monoclonal antibody that binds with high affinity and specificity to the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor rather than to CGRP itself. By occupying the receptor, it competitively blocks CGRP from binding and triggering downstream signaling implicated in migraine pathophysiology. Its effective half-life of about 28 days supports once-monthly dosing.
