- A lab-made antibody that sticks to PD-L1, a cloaking protein tumors use to hide from the immune system, so your T cells can recognize and attack the cancer.
- How it works
- Atezolizumab is an Fc-engineered, humanized, non-glycosylated IgG1 kappa monoclonal antibody that binds PD-L1 expressed on tumor cells and tumor-infiltrating immune cells. By blocking PD-L1's interactions with both PD-1 and B7.1 receptors on T cells, it relieves the inhibitory signaling that tumors exploit to suppress anti-tumor immunity. This restores cytotoxic T-cell activity against malignant cells without directly killing tumor cells itself.
- Therapeutic applications
- FDA-approved, alone or in combination with chemotherapy or targeted therapy, across several major tumor types including non-small cell lung cancer, extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, unresectable/metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma, BRAF V600-mutant melanoma, alveolar soft part sarcoma, and as adjuvant therapy for muscle-invasive urothelial cancer.
